Please support this excellent legislation! We wrote and passed similar bill in 2005 as a local ordinance (Sarah's Law) in Camden, NJ, see: http://www.compassionforcamden.org/sarah.html

People who abuse animals are likely to abuse children

NJ 2008 - Cross-Reporting of Child and Animal Abuse

Time is Running Out to Protect Children and Animals

Few remaining legislative session days are scheduled before the session officially ends on Dec. 15. Children and animals in New Jersey need your help!

The tragic link between animal abuse and child abuse is well-documented.
Professionals must work together to report abuse, strengthen families and prevent further family violence.

Assembly Bill 2668 is a landmark bill that would require veterinarians to report suspected animal cruelty to law enforcement officers and animal cruelty investigators. The bill would also require law enforcement officers who receive a report of alleged animal cruelty to investigate whether domestic violence or child abuse may also have been committed at the same location.

By effectively addressing the link between violence toward animals and other forms of societal violence, we can gain information that will help stop violence in the home as well as in the community at large.

A2668 is a step in the right direction toward protecting both children and animals from domestic abuse.
